SumBlox

Skillfully combining mathematics education and intuitive play, SumBlox take the concept of wooden blocks beyond building.

Founder David Skaggs came up with the idea for SumBlox while working as a tutor and struggling to teach math concepts with the apps and activities on the market. He wanted his students to have an engaging and visual way to learn math concepts. So he built a prototype in his fathers garage – a set of wooden block numbers that reflected actual height value and could be stacked to find the sum. He knew he had discovered a winning idea when his tutoring students started learning new concepts and breaking down problems more quickly.

Now kids around the world are able to benefit from David’s innovation. Through fun and interactive play, children are able to learn counting, addition, multiplication and more. Slumbox encourages hand-eye coordination, and motor skill development as well.

As twin parents, we especially appreciate that SlumBox allows for siblings to work in cooperation, or to engage independently. With a variety of different sets, booster packs, and individual blocks available, parents are able to customize play to any child’s ability. The Sumblox website also provides a large selection of free lesson plans to use as a resource.

In addition to SumBlox’s value of education, open-ended play, and sustainability, the organization is committed to social responsibility. They recently announced participation in the One Tree Planted program, wherein two trees will be planted for every set sold.

The San Diego Parents of Twins Club is grateful to have SumBox as a featured sponsor for this years silent auction fundraiser.
