Empower Physical Therapy

Carrying and giving birth to new life can take a toll on a woman’s body – and for mothers of twins all the sensations and transformations are multiplied! While physical changes are par for the course with pregnancy, physical discomfort that lingers for months and years beyond delivery often goes needlessly unaddressed by women unsure if their experiences are abnormal and uncertain where to turn for help.

An Empower Physical Therapy examination and follow-up visits are tailored to match your individual needs. Dr. Ivy strives to treat the whole patient as she feels that consideration of their overall health and well-being is an important part of the rehabilitation process.

That’s why the San Diego Parents of Twins Club is grateful to know Ivy Colbert, PT, DPT of Empower Physical Therapy. Empower Physical Therapy is a San Diego mobile pelvic floor physical therapy clinic that specializes in treating musculoskeletal conditions and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Dr. Ivy treats conditions such as pelvic pain, urinary leakage and/or incontinence, prenatal and postpartum related conditions, and other musculoskeletal pain with the goal of helping women feel empowered, confident and in control. In graduate school, she developed a passion for treating pelvic floor dysfunction. After receiving her doctorate in physical therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, she went on to pursue further education for pelvic floor treatment through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. She has worked in outpatient physical therapy, treating female pelvic floor dysfunction along with other various orthopedic conditions, utilizing skills in myofascial release, joint mobilization, trigger point release, and therapeutic exercise.

Physical Therapy can help with your alignment, posture, improve strength and decrease pain. Some of the conditions we treat include: diastasis recti, C-section scar tissue, Pelvic Organ Prolapse, postpartum dyspareunia (painful sex), SI joint pain, back pain and hip pain. During an  initial evaluation, Dr. Ivy completes a comprehensive examination that includes objective measures such as strength, flexibility, range of motion etc. She may also look at movement patterns, assess soft tissue and assess posture. Manual treatment, education about your condition, and at-home exercises will be provided. Following the evaluation, there will be follow-up treatment sessions based on examination findings.

Empower Physical Therapy is affiliated with Lovestrong Wellness. The San Diego Parents of Twins Club is grateful for their participation in this year’s Silent Auction.
